The Fernwood Urban Village is a ‘developer assisted’ cohousing project.    There are many advantages to this.

To quote from an expert, Architect  Charles Durrett, author of ‘The Senior Cohousing Handbook,’  (pps 89-90):

 

“When a core group of residents partners with a developer, their project moves faster, more efficiently and is less costly….[they] reap huge benefits in terms of actually moving the project forward,  In urban areas land is often scarce and development/rezoning costs exorbitant.   Experienced developers supply initial investments and handle the complexities of planning approvals, financing and construction management.  Developers take on risk and put in the work required to get projects built
